Are you considering outsourcing jobs for your business? Then you must know the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing. Part 1 of this two-part article series covered the first three disadvantages of outsourcing. Part 2 covers four more.
Disadvantages of Outsourcing 4: You May Not Get The Support You Need From An Outsource Vendor
One major disadvantage of outsourcing is the inability to contact vendors for support after you have paid them and a job has been closed. Usually you are limited to attempting to contact vendors though the outsource service site, but most vendors don't check their messages on a job after it is completed.
This makes getting support after payment near impossible.
Disadvantages of Outsourcing 5: Some Outsource Vendors May Abuse Your Trust
The laws in many countries don't honor copyright laws and intellectual property as the USA does. So a dishonest outsource vendor can collect payment from you to produce a product using your information and then sell your product to others.
Another risk is involved if an outsource vendor accesses your site administration. This often is necessary to install a script or a program. But be careful in allowing it because the vendor can damage your site.
If you have to cancel a contract because the vendor either doesn't meet deadlines or can't complete the job, you run the risk that the vendor will take revenge by destroying your site.
Disadvantages of Outsourcing 6: You May Become Overdependent On Outsourcing
When you depend on outsource vendors to perform tasks that are vital to your business success, you run the risk of becoming dependent on external people. They may not necessarily have the best interest of your business as a priority.
Disadvantages of Outsourcing 7: Outsource Relationships Are Short-Term
Because of the nature of the outsource business, you may find a good outsource vendor, but not be able to hire the vendor again.
So even if you request a vendor for another job through the same outsource service, the vendor may be too busy with other jobs to work yours in. You'll have to wait until the vendor is free or select another vendor.
Disadvantages of Outsourcing: Synthesis
You must know the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing in order to make informed decisions about when and if you want to use outsource vendors.
You should give outsourcing decisions the same due consideration that you would give to hiring a new employee.
